About Samsung Super League with FEI™
Samsung Super League with FEI 2007 (pdf format)
Just five years after its inauguration, the Samsung Super League with FEI has come into its own to become the undisputed highlight of the international Jumping outdoor calendar. The combination between eight teams, eight events and just over four months of first-class Jumping has led to a well balanced formula which has been enthusiastically received by thousands of fans worldwide. Expectations in terms of television and media coverage were also surpassed despite the eventful international sporting agenda.
Thanks to the Samsung Super League and what we can now safely call Super League spirit, something special has happened in international Jumping. Team spirit has made a big come-back and there is a renewed sense of pride in not just winning for your country, but in joining your fellow-countrymen in flying your national flag with pride and determination even when things are not going well.
The Samsung Super League with FEI is organised over eight prestigious venues: La Baule (FRA), Rome (ITA), St Gallen (SUI), Rotterdam (NED), Aachen (GER), Hickstead (GBR), Dublin (IRL), and Barcelona (ESP).
The eight qualified nations for 2007 are Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.
The promotion/relegation system between the Samsung Super League with FEI and the FEI Nations Cup, the world’s oldest and best renowned equestrian series, at the end of each season brings additional excitement and further enhances the sporting qualities of both series. Each year, the country finishing last in the Samsung Super League with FEI drops off and is replaced by the country finishing first in the FEI Nations Cup Series. The last event of the 2006 Samsung Super League in Barcelona turned out to be a tough end to a tough year for Irish team who were relegated. They were replaced by Belgium, who thanks to a very active FEI Nations Cup season have regained their Super League status.
A Super League competition takes place over two rounds, over the same course, during the same day. It is judged under table A not against the clock with a time allowed in both rounds. The scores of the best three riders of a team of four are added together for each round, and the winner is the team with the fewer penalties at the end of the competition.
For the last 18 years the FEI has enjoyed a strong partnership with Samsung, Korea’s top electronics company and one of the major Olympic sponsors. The FEI is particularly pleased with the level of cooperation and understanding achieved between all the partners involved in the project including the riders, the organisers, the National Federations and the title sponsor.
With Samsung Electronics firmly committed to the series, team Jumping looks set to thrive well into the future. And team spirit, that effort of pulling together for a common cause, is more evident than ever.
